Have you had your ride-on lawnmower serviced yet?

Many men (in particular) aspire to having their own ride-on lawnmower to spend hours on in their spare time. Gadgets such as beer can holders have made these mowers even more aspirational and an alternative to the garden shed hideaway. If you’ve ever liked the idea of having somewhere to escape to, whilst doing something useful, then a ride-on lawnmower is a fantastic option.
And they’re even more affordable than before, with a second-hand mower costing from just £600. Plus, in all seriousness, they are a far faster alternative to a petrol or electric push mower if you have a large lawned area.
If you’re thinking about purchasing one for yourself, here are some things to think about:
- How big is your garden? If you have less than an acre of lawn, you might want to consider a smaller model with a smaller capacity of grass collection or mulching unit
- Do you have any obstacles or tricky areas? If you have items such as bird tables, water features or elaborate borders in your garden, make sure the model you buy is easily manoeuvred
- Have you got somewhere to store it? If you have a large shed, then that is ideal, but if not you can get weatherproof covers to keep it dry over winter
- How wide is the mower/cutter? Have a look around your garden for narrow channels between flower beds but also any paths you may need to take it down
Most importantly, you will not want to get your mower out from storage this spring only to find it won’t start. Before you need to use it, get it serviced and repaired if necessary by a reputable local company.
