SP Holding supports flood barrier launch
Telford-based Drainage Contractor, SP Holding, has been supporting the launch of a new concrete flood barrier invented in Shropshire.
One of the Company’s clean water tanks was based in Much Wenlock on 15th April at the site of ThermoneX Concrete Solutions Ltd (TCS), where popular TV weatherman, Fred Talbot, was demonstrating the ease of use of the invention.
The Speedy Beaver system, invented by the team at TCS, offers a permanent but demountable flood barrier. Consisting of a precast concrete pavement, it can be quickly raised to create a one metre high barrier to protect buildings and communities from the effects of flooding. During the demonstration, the SP Holding potable water tank dispensed clean water to demonstrate the effectiveness of the barrier against rising waters.
And this is not the first time that SP Holding have done their bit to tackle the effects of flooding in the UK. During the major floods of 2008, the Company provided thousands of litres of clean water to hospitals in the Gloucestershire area. They also work with the Environment Agency along the river Severn to over-pump flood waters back into the river as flood defences are raised.
Managing Director, Steve Holding, says “In flood situations, which affect our region in particular, we have been working with Severn Trent and the Environment Agency to minimise the effects of flood waters on local homeowners and businesses. By showing our support to local companies also looking to prevent flooding across the UK, we are showing that we are committed to preventing the devastating impact that flooding has had in the past.”
SP Holding provide various tankering and pumping services including waste removal and disposal, over-pumping, clean water tankering and high pressure jetting to companies and homeowners throughout the Midlands.
