One-off Commissions
On many occasions we have been commissioned to produce special one-off pieces and replicas of historical metal architecture.
Below is a photograph of the archway over the gates into Hartshill Park, Oakengates. The arch was originally melted down to create parts for the war effort. No records of the design were ever kept, until an old newspaper cutting with a picture of the arch turned up! SP Holding created a scaled duplicate of the arch using only the picture from the old newspaper cutting.
We were also asked to design and manufacture a period gate for the Norman Chapel in Telford Town Park. After researching designs created in the middle ages, namely from 1066 Norman Conquest to the 13th century, the most likely design would have been horizontal and vertical strip metal riveted at crossover points, as would have been the design of a portcullis. The result is an authentic gate that completes this interesting monument.
